Multiple Socket Backplate / Universal Bulb Socket System

Our versatile universal socket assembly consists of an insert-molded backplate that mounts to a taillight parabola with removable lamp sockets for serviceability. The backplate contains an insert molded circuit with a simple single connection to the wire harness. This system provides a unique cost effective backplate for each application, while the standard socket assemblies leverage high volume automated manufacturing cost and insure quality.
The plug-in sockets connect each bulb to the backplate and position the bulb filament in the taillight reflector. This socket system is suitable for harsh environments with several sealed and unsealed options. The socket is designed to support automated bulb insertion and installation into the backplate. This reduces bulb breakage and assembly costs, along with reducing the hazard associated with broken glass bulbs.
The stamped circuits connect all bulb locations to a single connector, thus simplifying the wiring of multiple bulb sockets. The metal circuit paths handle high currents with low voltage drop across the backplate. Various Ferrous and Nonferrous materials can be used for the backplate circuits with multiple plating options.
The product design and manufacturing economics permit the use of multiple materials for performance and cost control. The socket assembly uses high-temperature molded Nylon to locate the bulb, with a positive heat tolerant Stainless Steel bulb retention clip. Acetal plastic is used in the cap to reduce friction during assembly. Wide contacts are used at the electrical interface for low voltage drop and heat dissipation. The product is designed to accept various O-ring seals which eliminate moisture paths into the lamp assembly. Other configurations using serpentine leak paths or vented designs are available. This universal socket assembly can be used with various backplate mounting configurations in flat or multi-level designs which follow external vehicle contours. Backplate mounting options include Hot Plate Welding, Snap/Clip On, or with Screws.
Applications include passenger car or truck taillights, front signal lamps, and side lighting.
